Few is any here knows what they are and I have never seen any 20 Franc coins around me. In case of currency problems bartering or selling them vs. a 1/10 or 1/4 ounce gold US coin would lead to steep discounting on my part, IMHO. Gold is not something the average American understands and foreign gold is not trusted as much as the overpriced US or Canadian gold.
longdon, yes i understand; the US population average is quite ignorant about what exists out of the USA. as said elsewhere, have good pliers, a scale and a calculator to cut up bigger coins or rounds if necessary.

The future is maybe in "ready to quarter" one ounce rounds...

Divisibility was an advantage of the old Spanish "pieces of eight" coins.

Divisible gold is currently available in bar form from Valcambi Suisse - https://online.kitco.com/buy/20109/5...bar-9999-20109

    1 gram coins also exist - https://online.kitco.com/buy/31106/2...oin-9999-31106
“The Federal Reserve is not currently forecasting a recession.”
Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, January 2008
This is no longer posted in the Fed Minutes of January 2008, but still quoted here - https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna22592939. The FOMC minutes still quote MR. Reifschneider. as stating the same thing.

Yes you are right SilverPalm. There are a lot of 1 gram bars available on the market right now. I saw a YouTube of such collectors. Mind you there is a hefty premium when talking about bars this size. But each to their own.

But Goldi is right, I find that Americans are less informed on world gold, such as the French Rooster or Swiss 20 franc coins. I own a few of these myself. At the time of purchase I paid spot many years ago.

Gold rush? Just caught the noon news this Saturday and they were talking about the rush into gold at near high prices. Human nature to buy when it is at a recent high. They showed the Costco offerings, which are the various forms you can buy full 1 oz. bars and coins.

Myself? I'm holding tight for now. I do have a 4 items in 1/4oz. sized earmarked. I'm a dragon so have 1 of these on my want list, 1 Sov. either a 2022, 2023 or a 2024. The last 2 are more or less bullion, 1 Britannia & 1 Maple. Yes, I know that the added costs of these 4 coins will exceed the cost of a single 1 oz. bar or coin. So be it.

Thomas Jefferson is credited with writing, “When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty.” The seceding states in the Civil War period issued a similar declaration using the word “tyranny” as opposed to “injustice.”

A little off the topic of fractionals.

Really good shows about gold and gold mining are hard to come by these days.

If you have the time, (1:07:55) you might want to watch this sort of documentary. Worth a peek.
