    Default Premiums

JM is now marketing silver at spot for new purchasers, I have not seen this in a very long time, the market price still too high for me right now, it would have to get to high teens for me, this maybe a sign that premiums may start to come down. Watching the price of silver over time looks like my pulse rate. My fear is still silver prices and the stock market both have a large correction in the future. The economy as a whole is making a correction now, the Gov. Can only pump so much money into the system to prop up the stock market, to be able to state look how great things are as the rest of us are eating sandwiches. The faith in the dollar is already weakening, you loose that you are screwed, for that is the only thing backing the dollar. One dollar equaling the Peso.

Silver Eagle premiums are still high, but some other silver premiums are starting to soften a bit.
Gold Eagle premiums are not that bad these days.

Premiums are ridiculous right now. I was at a coin show yesterday and choice piece dollars ranged from $23-$40. One guy was selling BU Morgan’s for 25 and another guy was selling an identical coin for $50. 10 ounce bars of the same brand or 255 and a few tables over 300/2 ounce rounds from mpm ranged from 15 to 20. Half ounce gold eagles of recent years were selling as high as 1500 and some for 1200. One dealer told me that the regular crew of dealers tried to tell him to up his premiums or he would not be invited back to the next show. Nice way to do business. I was talking to a dealer about 90% silver at my LCS selling for $20 per dollar, while he was asking 28, he basically called me a liar. I think the old guys are so convinced that Silver will skyrocket that they are out of tune with reality. I only buy at spot and watching they people trying to wheel and deal premiums was ridiculous.

Nobody was holding a gun to your head, so vote with your feet and leave. If the dealers go home with what they brought, they'll figure it out at some point. If not, then purchase elsewhere.

I have found silver under melt at every single coin show I have been to so far.

I am a pretty good talker, it turns out. I also have a decent amount of knowledge about what is and isn't silver, and what things tend to go for.

What kind of silver is this? With most silver bullion, you can find dealers who will buy for over melt, so really do want to know what this is.

i will venture a guess on windweavers statement... it is fractional foreign coins, possibly annual proof sets from the franklin mint, etc. lets see if i read him correctly. if so, my concern has been that he finds some amazing under melt pricing for these, the resell is more than likely dependent on another collector buying them from him, otherwise i suspect he will get quite under melt from the smelter bin. now regarding his very impressive and extensive knowledge of these foreign coins, i dont think i know of anyone his equal on such silver relics.

A blessing that could work out to be a curse hehe.

I have gotten winged liberty dimes and walker halves under melt at coin shows. Not exclusively foreign silver. That which was foreign was likely Canadian junk.

i have not been able to find any 90% US coinage uner melt for about 5 years now. At one time I could get it at about 5% to 10% under melt but that was long ago. The best I can do now is rounding up to next dollar over actual melt. If melt is $16.50 my cost was $17, etc. and that from a private seller.
