Thread: Debt default good for silver price?

I don't know the future any better than anyone else does, but as fiat continues to historically decline in value, I'm not seeing heavy metals as a store of value. If I had the space I'd sooner store basic meds and "luxury items", like detergent, toothpaste, toilet paper. And food. I'd pass on the canned beans though, too heavy compared to freeze dried meats and fruits, plus beans would be undesirable if there's a run on toilet paper. Some food for thought, until and if we ever get to cash being worthless, in the meantime as a dealer in gold I can say that cash is becoming scarcer, the banks physically and by some policy making fiat scarce, slowly. Before and if we get to fiat worth zilch, I see fiat being worth more as it becomes scarcer. It may take 10 years or 1000 years until we reach zilch on fiat.....I'm not planning on that happening in my or my living descendents lives. Maybe look to some relatively new asset form of money as a way of storing money, for at least some diversification. Presumably, in a mad max type world of barter, even real estate would lose value unless it came with a secure water source.

My late Uncle was a worldly man.. Korean war vet and quite a successful business man. When the USSR collapsed he made some contacts over there and sent an overseas container of marketable items.
He once told me he had to ship what they really needed....Booze and pornography.

to me, items like gold, silver, copper, or any other item is the conversation mix because they have long historic use as currency in civilization. very few people today probably know that gold and silver and copper metal was actually inn common circulation until recently, historically speaking. what if the powers that be, in this new world order, dump those commodities and replace them with new accepted materials or concepts. gold, silver, diamonds, etc have very little use to the individual in society (excluding industrial/ornamentation use). we could trade our metals or goods, but they would not have international support they currently enjoy. the past is not guaranteed to be the future.
