Cashless society

went to a cash-free Metallica concert in Pittsburgh a few days ago...credit card/digital sales only.
not even a ticket stub...digital on phone only.

nope...I dont like it.

At the Doobie Bros about a month ago I went to get a beer and was told they would not take cash. I hadn't brought any cards because I didn't want to take a chance to lose them.

I went to the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday. The vendors I did business with didn't take cash.

We are 50 yrs or more away from cashless. Its just not going to happen any time soon. Sure there are some vendors who will play, but most will not.

Plenty of gas stations still give a cash discount.

Cashless could never happen and our govt knows this.

Anywhere people have to live with connectivity and power-out regularity(like annual weather) could not ever go cashless, only coddled inner city folk , but even then, look at what happened last time NYC had that hurricaine weeklong power outage. People begging for food, as they had configured their lives to be cashless, and didn't have a dollar cash. They learned real quick, on visiting their neighborhood market.....cash only.

Where I live(north montana) we have this discussion often, and every winter storm event see the Tesla Tourist, stranded at a gas station, begging for food/warmth because all they have is their tap card, and the charging stations all offline. Local gas stations all have diesel backup, for a week if need be.

We feel pity for the people deluded into following a cashless, govt controlled, power dependent lifestyle.

Just one cme away from permanently losing all of your lifes monetary value, if you don't permanently hold it.

New York Yankees stadium is completely cash free you need debit/credit cards, also NY Giants and Jets in MET LIfe stadium New Jersey is no cash. I went to a rock concert in CITI Field stadium (NY Mets) in New York, everything was credit/debit cards, they did allow concert customers to insert cash into machines to get gift/debit cards to purchase items.

I haven't been to a Yankee game since game 6 in 2009. No plans to go either....same for Rangers, who I used to go 4-5x a yr to MSG.

Have a friend that bought suite at the coliseum, will go to those games, don't need anything but tip cash for the ushers....they appreciate a little green.

Isolated incident last week for me.
Went grocery shopping (Meijer), noticed their gas station premium fuel wasn't crazy $$$ high.
Credit card terminals at pumps/inside were down - cash only. Lots of pissed off people waiting for the magic switch to go on.
Scowling faces when I came back to my car, and started pumping. Brassy Woman "waiting" across from me yelled "Who carries cash anymore !"

Everyone keeps a secret "get back home" cash stash in their vehicles.

Here in the city, there are still a number of small businesses that are "cash only", some even give discounts for cash. I love these places, they have my loyalty.

Where I find "cashless" is in these big resorts, amusement parks, airlines. Big institutions that people are trapped in -- I try to avoid them, and if a resort hotel I stay in is cashless, well -- I never eat or drink on site so it's a loss for them.

What is most troubling are some national parks now say cashless -- and the explanation is "for your safety". That is rather a pathetic excuse, as I don't see how providing my card and often ID makes me feel safe. I have had many past unauthorized use of my credit cards before, while never with my cash, so I know it's not for my safety. They also using cards makes it easier to identify terrorist, again, what joke, like known terrorist are going to us a credit card with their name.

I hear some entire nations are largely cashless. Sweden is one of them. I will avoid patronage of any nation, city, or business that I know does not accept cash; one good thing about S.F. is that they require businesses open to the general public to accept cash --while I've found some more conservative suburbs (yes, usually wealthy ones) full of businesses that are card or smart phone only for transactions. I myself give 10% discount on services for use of cash (and even more for bullion). I do not take cards, debtors need to learn to save, will not engage in promotion of usury.
