Thread: grab all those copper pennies!

Default grab all those copper pennies!

LME warehouse stock levels of copper are close to 1/10 of what they have been historically. I imagine copper quickly moving towards $40/lb. Those pre 1982 95% copper pennies are worth 3 cents now. $40/lb copper would be 30 cents per copper penny!

well, then, that would be awesome to convert the pallet of coppers that i sorted years ago with the ryedale penny sorter. i will believe it when i see it and it is legal to smelt copper cents. i wonder how many coppers are contained in a plastic round or square 2 pound coffee container filled to the top? I never actually weighed any of them but they are probably at least 10 pounds each. i sorted out the wheats at the time but otherwise they are just all mixed dates and various grades and colors from a rich dark brown to red to shiny mirror finishes. i am not looking forward to sorting through them for key dates or errors or top grades, etc.
it is a bit of a hoard for sure but i wish it were silver walker halfs or morgans etc. that would be something of beauty me thinks.

Stealing copper from ac units / empty properties might return.
I remember back in early 2011 @$4.58, local news had several segments of copper theft.

'copper' cents aren't "copper" but rather they are Bronze with a 95% copper mix, plus the smelter will require a service cost and there is the expense of getting them there, fuel / time / road snacks, nothing is Free

i'm gonna wait to offload my stash when the price is double from here, besides, i only have the one 1982 cent i've been hoarding since i got it

oh boy oh boy oh boy

the real money is in the indian heads, they're about $1 a piece on the bay

(I just read, house wiring is only 50-60% copper, that needs to be priced in as spot is for 99-100%)

Remember seeing lots of copper rounds being sold back then on the bay.
Starting to believe that 2011 silver rocket might lift off again.

I had collected over $1000 in bronze penny, 59-81 it's only three 5 gallon buckets 2/3 full so not bad. Not all 82 are bronze, but most of them are.

Canada ditched their penny and started rounding back in 2012, so not sure what the hold up is. Maybe now with this inflation they will finally get rid of the penny.

are you sure? #1 bare bright copper wire pays more ($4.01/lb national average) than #1 copper pipe ($3.8/lb). The whole point of using copper for wiring is lowest (behind silver) electrical resistance. No point adding other metal to reduce conductivity when pure aluminum wire is a cheaper substitute than unpure copper wire.

The copper wire used in electrical wiring is a pure substance. It has identical atoms that cannot be separated through chemical means. Copper wires should have a very high level of purity for efficient conductivity; copper wires sold in stores have a 99.99 percent purity.

Thomas Jefferson is credited with writing, “When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty.” The seceding states in the Civil War period issued a similar declaration using the word “tyranny” as opposed to “injustice.”
