The FAT FINGER is the mysterious giant greedy finger waiting by the keyboard that hits the sell button and causes sudden extreme drops in the spot market.

It's a theoretical market influence that may or may not actually exist in reality. The legend has it, that market manipulators are able to coordinate to move spot prices at will, by metaphorically putting their fat fingers on the scales.

This is no longer posted in the Fed Minutes of January 2008, but still quoted here - https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna22592939. The FOMC minutes still quote MR. Reifschneider. as stating the same thing.

Today's fat finger was the DXY. It bumped off of 111.5, which is something that hasn't happened in a very long time. When that happened, gold spiked down, only to rebound twice as hard & just as fast, as of right now. The DXY fell back to around 111. It would seem that the fat finger slipped today.
