mines are $20 face, unless the ones i got are counterfeits

Correct, I was referring to the modern equivalents, the 1 oz gold coins, which have $50 face value.

My assumption was that the purpose of fiat was to allow debasement at will. That benefits some & robs others. That is what I have seen

Yes, and this ability to "benefit some & rob others" is the form of "government-banker control" I refer to. Socialist, which includes most of of our educators and political leaders argue this is a good thing. I strongly disagree.

That is part of the United States government robbery of currency. Once in '33 (I believe) when an ounce of gold was revalued from $20 to $35 and again when it was revalued to $50 (not sure when that happened). That was when people were walking away with more gold than the paper money was worth and our vaunted government overlords were losing money as a result of their monetary policy.... Can't have that... That $50 (or twenty) dollar notation does not mean what you think it means. It means they are thieves.

There was another theft when the penny was changed from copper to plastic in '82.... Yes, I know it is actually zinc.

Not to forget nickle -- no doubt the nickle will soon be minted of a cheaper metal (it's been a "wow" moment for nickle these last few days -- I believe those nickles in your pocket have metal content now valued at over double the face value).

Interesting history with the 5 cent coin. Pre civil war, it was the "half dime", literally half a dime in silver, very cool coins, I have some so my daughters could learn math better (so many kids are confused by the nickle being larger than the dime).

Then (with held pf the civil war), the government replaced that with today's nickle. This is now the U.S. coin that has been kept to the same composition the longest. However I"m pretty sure that will end soon, and actually don't really see the need of any coin worth less than the quarter. For those who think that is being disloyal to coins - - consider most Americans consider them of nuisance value (for good reason, the face value of the nickle is like 1/20th of a penny when coins held value with silver and gold). Most Americans don't like using coins anymore, the only way to bring them back would be to replace our paper with practical sized coins. This, of course, won't happen so longer as the government-banker cartel (who have a monopoly over currency creation) rule our lives through violence and threats while keeping their flocks dumb and dependent.

It appears that the beatings will continue until the morale improves, or at least the POG will continue to be suppressed until some big fish decides it's time to take the thumb off. Perhaps the big fish is the Fed via its control over big banks in the attempt to continue to put lipstick on the pig of a US$?

Been a nice drop on this roller coaster from 2050 to 1910, just gaining momentum for another "wow".
