Looks like pre sale prices are 6k-10k. on the GAE. Depending on eventual grading returns and limited mintage numbers, the eventual asking price may possibly double your investment. But the problem there is what subset of collectors will be possible buyers? The rarer the coin, the smaller the market for potential buyers. Now its a subset of a subset of a subset... How well do you know that actual market and can you invest 10k and be willing to sit on it for 5 years or more while it either appreciates or depriciates in value. Risk is high but so can the reward be, maybe... At the end of the day its worth about 2k in melt value...

I would not invest that kind of money in a purposefully manufactured "collectible". I can see prices like that for a 100+ year old Morgan Dollar, not for a fresh-out-of-the-oven ASE that contains $25 worth of silver. Just doesn't appeal to me at all. I'd rather put that money into as much gold as I could get for the same price. But hey, I'm a low-roller and notorious cheapskate; if it's up your alley, go for it.

Thanks for this post, Hombre and MSH. I agree with you, MSH, that the US Mint website was horrible today. It took me nearly an hour and a half, but I finally was able to place an order for one of the silver 75th Anniversary of the End of WWII coins. Not so much for investment as sentimentality, as my late father went in at Omaha Beach on D-Day, and was disabled the day after by having his kneecap shot off. Pretty coin, and again, thanx.

Agree... the website was terrible. I tried to get both the gold and silver coins but was only able to get the silver. Took me an hour and a half also... not fun. Had the gold coin in my cart but the site kept locking up and I could never get it to process the order. Oh well, I guess I keep that money for something else
