@Redrum I tried to respond to your PM but your inbox is full...
Anyone that identifies themselves by the color of their skin, is a racist.
There is only ONE race of people on this planet, the human race.

Do not be deceived, Darwin’s theory of Evolution is racist. When Darwin is properly understood, it leads to the justification for believing that certain races of people are by birth and nature superior to others and that is the definition of racism.

    Freedom,

This is the correct thread to post questions in. I do not respond to questions in my blog.

jjmcwill - I do not respond to any questions or comments in the blog I post. I use the blog as a record of what I recently do in investing and for others to follow. I created this thread for questions.

    You wrote:

Redrum, I don't mean to detract from the overall thrust of this thread but you seem like the guy to ask. I signed up for for E TRADE to start working on some investments with a small portion of my money. Would you recommend going that route for a complete novice or is there a better option?
The answer is probably buried somewhere in this thread, but I dont want to sift through the whole thing.

I have no experience with E TRADE (Morgan Stanley). I have all of our (my wife and I) savings and retirement savings in linked accounts through Chase Bank. I do believe it is more important to understand investing and have a specific plan for how you intend to invest, is much more important than where you choose to invest through.

What I can say about having accounts at Chase is their layout is extremely user friendly.

Here is a thread I started on the I-series bonds back then: https://gold-forum.kitco.com/showthr...ond&highlight=

I do not respond in my blog, this is the place to post questions...

Now, as bond "substitutes" in our retirement investments we used "closed end funds" which are not limited as to payment structures such as the I-series bonds.

    Currently we hold:

UTF, currently paying a 6.99% dividend with no reduction in payout since 2009.
UTG, currently paying a 7.09% dividend with no reduction in payout since 2004.
BUI, currently paying a 6.20% dividend with no reduction in payout since 2002.

All are completely liquid in that you can sell them right after buying them with no penalty. My analysis indicates these three are the safest currently available with holdings in infrastructure, energy and utilities, all of which should be impacted very little in a true recession. They all pay off dividends monthly.

I will share my OPINIONS and answer questions here especially since the meandering sentiment posts really leave one with more questions and that includes me. Sentiment analysis and movements leave multiple probabilities at any point but in my mind it all makes sense but try and put abstract thoughts and perceptions along multiple probabilities and it becomes a jumble. So, in my BLOG postings I try to post only what I perceive to be the highest probability of what is occurring.

I read a lot as this is my hobby and I only have time to do this as I am retired. That is why I post my OPINION about the S & P 500 although I am actually better when one drills down into dividend paying equities and yes I know I use the description of dividends very loosely so lets not get into chats about what actually is a dividend.

In my OPINION the Bull Market that started in 2009 is likely ending. I expect the end to either be slightly above 4,300 or slightly above the S & P all time high of 4,819. I also expect that this Bear market could last as long as the Bull Market did, over a decade.

I write mostly about Dividend Investing but if there is enough interest I will share my OPINION about investment classes; ETF's Treasuries, and mutual funds once a true bear market recession begins. Since May of 2022 the S & P 500 has been meandering in a range bound "Indecision" sentiment based structure. I will likely do this in this thread and see if I can get the change of the thread to: Questions and concerns about company specific issues, ETF, Mutual Fund and US Bond funds.

Heck, I could be totally wrong.
