Lightbulb Palladium at almost twice the price of platinum

Palladium at almost twice the price of platinum

By mid October it looked as if Palladium was rallying to twice the price of Platinum, with the price ratio hitting 1.974 at the Comex close on 16 Oct. Less than 2% to go ... Eventually it didn't happen.

An anomaly turning into the 'new normal' is what I read on a 'Mining Corner' blog post

When looking at the broader picture, the Palladium rally only has been eclipsed by that of Rhodium, but that's yet another story.

And as one who has now sold all his Palladium and Rhodium (and has been stacking Platinum), it is getting rather frustrating. How long, if ever will the ratios between platinum and these other PM's return to more historically typical levels? Is anyone still going with the "Trend is your friend' view, and still stacking Pd and Rh?

Palladium did finally hit double the value of platinum a few days ago. And when Palladium pulled past Platinum not to long ago, I was thinking now it's Platinum's turn.....will it ever be?

Don't get it, one would think with these price differences, many would have already turned to platinum to use in catalyst in place of palladium (just as was done in the reverse when palladium was far cheaper than plat).

well platinum is upward last couple days and i really hope it adds another hundred over next couple weeks. alas, i need to sell something for taxes and did an inventory of my platinum a couple days ago. i actually had a few more than i remembered which is awesome and am looking for an exit point for five of them.

regarding the catalyst metals usage. it seems somewhere i read that when platinum is used as the primary there needs to be more rhodium in the mixture. whereas less rhodium is used when palladium is used instead. if true, that would explain your question a bit. i may be wrong but that idea sticks in my mind for some reason. maybe someone wants to research this idea a bit more and relay the actual facts

I've read all kinds of stuff on this, hard to tell how really know more. Some say that platinum is superior, palladium was just substituted because it (once) was considerably cheaper, and now it takes a while to retool to switch back. Rhodium I hear is required regardless of which metal is used. Would be good to hear from someone who is actually involved in designing and producing such catalyst, I suspect most if not all we have read is by those who just repeat what they are told, and we don't know has accurate initial sources vs just more pretenders behind it all. Also, technology does rapidly change at times, as do the regulations that effect what is needed.

Yes, would be good if someone spent the time to accurately research from various sources and report -- but those kinds of well researched objective reports are not had for cheap, while BS is free.
