that's quite normal, but a lot of governments produce lots of debts too, Money has to be given to everybody in order to be elected, and people know how to play the " game " and milk the system for more ( more and more fake ) money, because the increase has nothing to do with increased production.

Here in the happiest copuntry of the world the running year new debt will represent over 12 pct of the budget, so fiat production is a big industry.

= more or less keeping up with inflation... but that is also the idea behind the " stacking".

Looking at the long term gold chart you notice a few things:

    https://schrts.co/qaKbQXcg

----the long term moving averages are constantly going up
----gold has a jump in price, followed by a period of consolidation
    (trading in the range)

I think that is what we call a "secular trend."

It's interesting to see who buys gold. It's also interesting to see who produces it -

It's also interesting to see what happened to gold production in South Africa, after the big governmental shake up in 1990.
“The Federal Reserve is not currently forecasting a recession.”
Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, January 2008
This is no longer posted in the Fed Minutes of January 2008, but still quoted here - https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna22592939. The FOMC minutes still quote MR. Reifschneider. as stating the same thing.

    Costco is selling gold bars.

Fast. Gold is selling like hotcakes.

That shows that gold is going to go up.

For a (very) long term investor, the gold chart is actually looking great:

    https://schrts.co/HjdBpJdx

The 200 DMA is continuing its uninterrupted march upwards
while the 50 DMA had a period of consolidation and has resumed
    its march upwards.
