Yesterday I ordered a Garrett AT Max metal detector as well as the Garrett AT Pinpointer. Both of them are waterproof. I know it's not the most expensive machine out there ($760 and then $129 for the p.p.), but neither is it the cheapest, and it seems to be decently rated. It may not be the very best out there, but it'll be miles better than the cheap Radio Shack version of one I had when I was a kid. I'm clearly a newbie when it comes to knowing the ins and outs of using it, but I'm a fast and eager learner and I'm hoping it can pay huge dividends with a good amount of luck and finding the right places to search. It should be delivered in about 2-3 days. Wish me luck!
I'm wishing you a lot of luck Bronkster. Learning curve seems steep at first then teaches you patience, and to slow down a bit. At least that is what I found. Good luck and enjoy the outdoors...and treasures. Did you let the FBI know yet?...haha

I've got a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 Metal Detector P505 my son gave me. I can barely turn it on with my level of expertise. And all I use it for is finding rebar property stakes.
Be nice if it could locate my well head 4 ft down.
What's the Frequency, Kenneth?
432Hz
That's a hard one Red. I would try and witch it with 2 copper rods. Trace the waterline if there is water still in it, and when one can no longer witch the waterline, you'd probably be on top of the well head. I use 16" inch copper rods, bent 90 degrees 4" inches from one end for the handle and 12"inches held so they are parallel to the ground.
One has to cross the waterline at a 90 degree angle, the copper rods will point together (in my case), or in some peoples cases, do the opposite and spread wide.
