I avoid automated check out like a plague. If asked I explain that I'm retired and collect social security and machines don't get a pay check and therefore don't pay into S.S. Plus I make use of veteran discounts and telling a scanner that I'd like a discount applied is useless since I also don't have the mark of the beast barcode installed on my forehead. I do enjoy paying cash to the high school graduates and round up with change to get back few or no change back from my purchases. Makes my day watching the eyes roll back in their head when they try to figure out why I've given them $20.13 for a $10.38 purchase.

Don, I am right with you. I will stand in line behind three fat women with full grocery carts before I will use the self-check-out at Wal-Mart. If I'm going to spend MY hard-earned money at YOUR store, why should I be doing all the work???
