Although I agree with the trend that automation will continue, this headline made me chuckle a little bit:

That being said, please save your money and just invest in low cost index funds. Don't pick stocks whether they are picked by humans or robots.

The article mentions much of those losses came about from carbon-based intervention. Yes, we can see it coming, automation will take over the work of researchers, analysts and managers.

Japan has been far ahead of the US & Europe in automation for many years. The industrial control systems from Japan do twice as much at half the price. The only way that companies like Allen Bradley & Siemens stay in business is corruption. I have seen it first hand. The expensive stuff gets spec'd in by people who get taken care of. It happens all the time. It's just like DC, but on a smaller scale

Restaurant are looking for robotics more than ever. Obviously the kiosk is a staple now at Mcdonalds, payment automation, Picnic (pizza making robotic startup), CRM, marketing automation, waitlist down, reservations up, to go on the up. White Castle recently made news with a 30,000 robot recently (flippy). 10 million or so restaurant jobs up for grabs. I'm doing bottom of the barrel work these days, bummer as my au/ag buying days are over, just got pushed out of IT by Karen and H1B, I'm relatively happier and healthier for it. I work with allot of ex-restaurant workers, some were family owned, allot of immigrants who support the restaurant industry.

I avoid automated check out like a plague. If asked I explain that I'm retired and collect social security and machines don't get a pay check and therefore don't pay into S.S. Plus I make use of veteran discounts and telling a scanner that I'd like a discount applied is useless since I also don't have the mark of the beast barcode installed on my forehead. I do enjoy paying cash to the high school graduates and round up with change to get back few or no change back from my purchases. Makes my day watching the eyes roll back in their head when they try to figure out why I've given them $20.13 for a $10.38 purchase. A friend likes to give out $2 bills. He's had the police called on him at least once for trying to pass counterfeit money.

Don, I am right with you. I will stand in line behind three fat women with full grocery carts before I will use the self-check-out at Wal-Mart. If I'm going to spend MY hard-earned money at YOUR store, why should I be doing all the work???
