what a clusterf%@k ... all set and poised for my 10 with 3 different cards to choose from. the site kept crashing and the phone lines kept hanging up. finally through 2 separate browsers and the phones, i got an order in for my 10. they are now showing "backorder" ie., sold out
i got two emails from PennMetals online dealer. one last night and one about an hour ago. Asking me to order 10 and then immediately sell them to PennMetals for a $250 immediate profit because of the household limit. They would pay for the insured shipping and mail the return shipping package to me if I agreed to their contract. I wonder how many people took them up on their offer. Neither my son nor myself will. We each got 10 to keep.
Looks like they sold out in under an hour!
I bought 2 from the Mint exactly at noon. A little hiccup with the checkout process from the overload of traffic but secured them. Checked my credit card statement and it was charged.
Also bought one on eBay for $257.00 as soon as I saw they were sold out. I had money left over in my PayPal account from an eBay sale of my own, plus a one day offer for 8% eBay bucks on the purchase. So I paid the balance with my 1% cash back credit card and ended up when all was said and done, paying $2.00 or so less than the Mint issued price
I'll open the one from eBay to look at and play with and leave the other two sealed from the Mint. If I ever want to sell at least I have one open to unload.
No, I'm not a grader of modern stuff unlike numismatic, circulated coins plucked out of circulation over the centuries in varying degrees of condition. I don't like the look of modern Mint issued coins outside of it's packaging. It looks rather sterile. I don't believe that was the intended purpose of the coin. It's either a 69 or 70 and the premium for a 70 is absurd in my opinion. Also, I don't want to go through with the expense too.
As far as which service, people tend to pay a little bit extra for PCGS graded coins. NGC I believe is a little more liberal in handing out 70's than PCGS. Personally, if it were me, I would go with the cheaper grading service between the two.
I agree with whoever said it is not too big a deal because gold pieces are rarely valuable. Even old gold coin money doesn't have much premium. Silver is a little different because there are more people who can afford silver rather than gold. It is easy because compared to gold, silver is cheap. Big deal if I pay a nice premium on a silver coin or two, but gold? Doesn't seem practical at all. There is very premium. I love mercury dimes. I even got mercury dime replica's in tenth form and 1 oz with very little premium.
