Ive on a number of occasions sold locally without any testing being done. Real eagles and bars but that isnt the point.

Ive sold tubes of eagles without them even being opened (again all legit product) but I could see how fakes could make it into a legit operation and resold. Pretty easily I think too.
No kidding. But perhaps fakes are not really that good to pro's. Myself, I usually buy similar items like Eagles, Maples, mercury dimes, and peace dollars. I have other stuff, But I feel 100% confident is real as soon as I see it and touch it. I bet I would spot a fake a mile away. If you handed me 1000 oz of those items, I think I could find the fake in a minute. I bet dealers feel the same about a lot more. There is a lot to learn though to have that level of confidence. I would hesitate to purchase a 1916 D , even slabbed, unless from a reputable dealer with a printed receipt. Why? Because it could be too easy to fake. Certainly worth the money.

Trust me, if it's been minted it's been faked. Companies like Provident buy and sell all the time. Not surprising that a fake or two could make it into the mix when buying from an outside source.

I can't even remember how many morgans, rolls of eagles, maples, kooks, pandas, libertads etc. I have sold to coin dealers who rarely even open the tube let alone measure, weigh etc. I don't care who you are buying from, you better be skeptical and check everything you get.
    Buy Low Sell High

Keeping it simple with the Eagles, Maples and Krugs....

Is this because they know you, as a repeat customer that what you bring in to sell is legit? I wonder if someone walks in that they have never seen before, to sell whatever, I wonder if they are going to check his product?

Wow some of your dealers worry me, I can't believe they don't test your items. I've been doing business with my dealer for years and we even have become friends having lunch once a month and such but he always checks everything that comes his way from everyone. It's always X-ray tested or put on a water density scale. Jeez no wonder fakes are circulated in the market.

Sounds like the pawn to me.Maybe they didnt want to buy any silver lack of funds or whatever. Or the employee gets charged back for mistakes and was a little gun shy. Maybe didnt know what the hell they were doing.

Another dealer (coin store) checked it out and said it was definitely real, offered spot price for it.
    Case closed.
