Today is a good day to buy.

    I'm thinking USO.

Risks: Global recession may decrease demand.
Trade war with China may spark global recession.
This may lead to lower oil prices.

    Pro:
OPEC has started oil production reduction.
    Russia too?
    Predictions of $60 WTI Oil.

U.S. average retail gasoline prices ended the year lower than they started

U.S. regular retail gasoline prices averaged $2.72 per gallon (gal) in 2018, 30 cents/gal (13%) higher than in 2017 and 57 cents/gal higher than in 2016. However, a rapid price decline beginning in October led to U.S. average regular gasoline prices ending the year lower than they began for the first time since 2015. In 5 of the 10 cities for which EIA collects weekly retail price data, gasoline prices exceeded $3.00/gal at least once in 2018.

Diesel spiked 50 cents a gallon the last couple days. Some places it's over $3 a gallon now.

I believe the issue is that diesel is made from heavier crude which is in shorter supply with sanctions on Venezuela, and U.S. producers / refiners have to source it elsewhere.

Gasoline can be easily made from West Texas Intermediate (WTI) which is a lighter crude.

This month, I made purchases of United States Oil ETF (USO), Exxon Mobil and SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Equipment & Services ETF (XES).

Brent Oil ETF (BNO) may be in better demand than USO because it is a heavier crude.
Still, USO is up from $10.18 to $11.63 since I bought it (14.2% gain). (The others are more recent purchases).

(Investments from longer ago (7 years ago) included Occidental Petroleum (OXY)).
