The NASA expenditure has always been chump change compared to the whole budget.

It seemed to me you were arguing the opposite my bad ....

I was just considering it is another as of yet insignificant factor to consider, now with the information this thread has brought to my attention about the rarity of the isotope necessary I see it as even less significant of a factor than I did before but it's still something to consider.
I see this as bringing energy and technology into the equation in a new and different way when we consider Gold supply and availability. Golds value in dollars is limitless as it comes down to demand for Gold setting price when Gold is of finite supply and availability, and dollar supply is infinite.

Yeah, a billion here and a billion there....and pretty soon you're talking real money.

There never will be any impact from gold created from other elements. The nuclear physics is intractable. It isn't a question of engineering or invention.

I wonder, does this link fit into this discussion?

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/12/tech/i...energy-fusion/

But it's being hailed as a milestone in a decades-long quest to harness the power of nuclear fusion, the same process that powers the sun. For the first time, scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California say they produced more energy from a reaction in their fuel source than they put into the fuel, said Omar Hurricane, the physicist who led the experiment.

I don't think it will matter much, if you think about it, its so much easier to counterfiet fiat currency, but its not worthless. At least not yet. The goverment prints the fiat like crazy in the us. But it still helds value well.

    Stupid post, stupid topic...

Spending millions to create a few particles of "free" gold.

Might as well mine the "free" gold on asteroids. Maybe you'll find the asteroid where I hid my stack on.
