Thread: When does the Dow hit 17,000?

Dow 17,000 will come before a correction or bear market. 17,000 by the 4th of July 2014.

A correction to below 15,000 is probable within one year and certain within 18 months unless The Fed buys it off with another $1 trillion USD like they did in 2012 and 2013.

A bear market 20% drop to sub-13,000 SHOULD occur while Obama is still President but there again, it can be bought off. It would require trillions of USD to prevent it from happening in the next 3 years and would be VERY foolish but The Fed has proven to be foolish in the past.....

I'll be the second one to take a stab ...

P/E ratio of the Dow is currently 16.61. The historical average is 15.5. By this benchmark, the Dow is overvalued. And to make matters worse, many believe that corporate earnings are skewed for the following reasons:
    1) Massive stock buyback programs have changed EPS ratios
    2) Productivity gains are slowing, as staff reductions and technology are not having as heavy effect on bottom lines. You can only push your employees so far.
    3) Cheap money by the FED has artifically lowered corporate expenses
    4) The US economy is overstimulated, making revenues higher than would be without QE

So, if the Dow PE ratio is high now, given overstated earnings, figure it should be higher when corporations run out of options for dressing up their income statements.

Clearly, the Dow is too high right now. But then again, to hell with fundamentals, go with your gut! Why not 18,000?

I am sure i will regret this .August dow 17000 ,then a slow crawl to 17500 and that point we will see some downside. If the brokers do not go crazy and the moms and pops hold fast itll be a healthy 15% if people think the end is near and start selling enmasse then could be some trouble. At 16950 i will be dumping everything.Right or wrong,i will have made money and while 17000 is justa number the psycology says that people will read to much into it and it will be far to volitile for me to risk .
