Ha Ha! Personally, I'd rather have full tubes of all U.S. Pre-33 gold Types, but with so many different oddball denominations, that'd be nearly impossible. The $1, $2.50, $5, $10 and $20's would be simple enough, but the $3 and $4's would certainly present a challenge. The California gold and Commemoratives like the Pan Pac Expo stuff would too.

$1,005 as a "backdated" coin. They had 2023's for $5 more. The 2019 issue is the 2nd lowest mintage in the series, as it's sandwiched right in between the 1991 @ a 24,100 mintage and

the 1990 @ 31,000. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it (no dings or scratches and it's genuine) and it's going for over $1200 online. Yup, I'll take that all day.
Beautiful timing...That grab is looking perfect now

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree regarding whether or not one can resell a 1990 or 1991 1/2 oz AGE for more than $200- currently averaging sold prices on eBay from between $1849 and $2895- that's certainly better than what should be approximately a $1,000 coin

No need to "disagree", I am here just to learn what share what actually happens. Have you been able to resell 1990/91 1/2 oz AGE for between $1849 and $2895? If so, how long did it take to find a buyer? Thing is, just because one may see an advertised price on eBay, it does not mean most sellers can sell at such a price in a reasonable time frame. I am interested in your actual experience on this, I have a lot to learn as I am not a seller at this point myself. Also, what about those who have had bad experiences with selling coins on Ebay - how much can they sell such coins to actual dealers they can trust?

So buying online one has to pay 7.25% or more in California sales tax plus premiums plus shipping maybe.
If an ounce for spot is 1800. And it goes for 1850$. Then 1850 x .0725 is about 134$ sales tax. Plus the 50$ over spot. 134+50 = 184$ over spot to buy online one ounce. In my state it is about 87$ tax plus the 50$ premium is 137$ over spot per ounce.
I suppose it’s fair the local LCS is selling oz pandas maples krugerrands philharmonics for 150$ over spot. The AGEs are 200 over spot. Buying from LCS saves paper trail the hassle of waiting for a package in the mail run around mail a check or keep refreshing the tracking number to follow it while ordering online. Perhaps 150$ over spot is cheap in many places?

    1. You only pay sales tax in CA on gold bullion if the amount is under $1,500. This is well known, and competent dealer would tell you this. I have never heard buying online makes a difference, and have done so online for years with no such tax. Did you come across any news that 2023 brings changes??

    2. As for what you can typically find common gold bullion for, I usually find for +3% or less, more like +$50 than +$150. Check out my posts in this thread. Of course, not true for the AGE anymore, as the U.S. mint is staffed with incompetent & corrupt employees who do not give a hoot about the welfare of the common American.

    3. Agree that going local is always best. Just hope they informed you of the $1500 rule. My own local will usually match what I find online.

Oh. it didn't work that way here when ordering online. Live and learn. Thanks.

I live in Northern CA, and have NEVER paid those premiums when buying from my local, even before I got price match. If you live in this region to, let me know and I will give you a fair dealer that does not charge the high premiums you speak of (and yes, those are high, especially if they buy back near spot), however if you do not have a long relationship with them I don't know if they will match online dealers. Local is best, it's the most common way I buy - though there is one online dealer that has unique offering and near spot my local can't match nor would I expect them to (as they do not even have such bars).

I'm not even going to bother checking up on that, however except for some strange collectors, I would highly doubt that, as people would pay more premiums for such Swiss bars given they had long been known for reliability - this is no longer the case. I would guess that given time, Credit Suisse bars now will need to sell for lower premium, not more, while perhaps Pamp, Argo-Heraeaus, & Valcambi (who actually mint the credit suisse bars) will maintain their higher premiums.

I have about half a dozen credit suisse bars, and would love to swap them for another mint, why hold onto a name that now represents banker failure?

    Argor-Heraeus Gold bars.

As discussed previously This still seems to be the mint that is selling gold bars for the lowest premiums now - under +$40/oz. And now common to find in the proffered 1 oz units (not just grams). Before the best deals were with Valcambi. I guess those wanting to expand into the business get known by offering the lowest premiums, and I have no problem helping them out. So for those into bullion gold -- just search for Argor-Haraeus, and you will find the lowest premiums.

I doubt producing these plastic wrapped "in assay" gold bars with unique numbers cost less than minting bullion coins, so I have wondered why you can always find bars for less. Myself, I prefer bullion coins (more efficient with space -- "stacking"), however not for another $20 or more a coin. As such, guess I am no longer a "stacker" - lining up plastic gold bars in some box must be called something else (anyone have a name?), as they will not literally stack so high (the plastic is slippery).
As far as getting at the lowest spot price - consider buying lots of digital at the lows (as it's easy to do and fast to "lock in"), then over time you can trade in that digital for the physical that is preferable for long term holdings.

Don't know what it should be called, but I've ditched the plastic wrappers on my one ounce silver bars and put them all into plastic "tubes" made just for that purpose. Again, I don't know what to call the rectangle shaped things made for bars, but "tubes" seems to work to get the point across.
