these days, unless i get an overwhelming deal on gold, i am saving my cherry for silver purchases at or near spot

Yes, silver "at or near" spot is very good, maybe better than gold at the same. Great if you can find that - unfortunately, I typically see bullion silver at over twice the premium (amount over spot) as compare to gold at the same value.

The Argor bars I mention above are near 1% in premium, is has been very rare over the years to find much better, check all the posts above. Now is a good time to trade in digital gold for physical in my opinion, don't wait for the runs when bullion is in short supply and people "cry the sky is falling" so imagine a disconnect is about to take place.

I've repeated this line many times over the years, and it really is because I just want more people to save in real gold and silver, and to show them how it can be done quite efficiently, even more so than with some digital record in some financial institution.

Silver premiums have stayed so high for so long, that it makes me want to open one of those we buy gold type places for buying silver AT FULL SPOT PRICE. If that was advertised openly, I'll bet it would ruffle some pawn shop feathers.

This is no longer posted in the Fed Minutes of January 2008, but still quoted here - https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna22592939. The FOMC minutes still quote MR. Reifschneider. as stating the same thing.

I've often wondered about the low ball prices pawn shops pay on gold and silver when several LCS pay fair value prices. The pawn shops don't seem to hurt for business. I think they cater to folks that don't know the value of what they have inherited. Also, many divorced young folks get a rude awakening when they go to a pawn to sell their gold and diamond rings. Fifty to sixty years ago the old folks talked about how great investing in diamonds was. Lab grown diamonds are now putting the price squeeze on natural dug diamonds.

A young gentleman that works for a friend of mine inherited a large stash from his grandfather. About every other month he needs cash and is slowly liquidating his holdings.

Okay, so my latest gold acquisition isn't exactly a screaming score, but it's gold, and I'm happy about it. I just returned from a local coin show and picked up a BU 2019 1/2 oz AGE for

$1,005 as a "backdated" coin. They had 2023's for $5 more. The 2019 issue is the 2nd lowest mintage in the series, as it's sandwiched right in between the 1991 @ a 24,100 mintage and

the 1990 @ 31,000. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it (no dings or scratches and it's genuine) and it's going for over $1200 online. Yup, I'll take that all day.
