That is an interesting test that I was not aware of. I have a bunch of neoydimium magnets on the fridge so I tried it. The magnet slid slowly down a real Morgan, and I tried a Peace dollar as well and it too slid down slowly on that coin. Then I tried a fake Morgan and it slipped right off...

Thats the scary thing, they do look genuine, but they are NOT! These fakes would fool probably most anyone who does not happen to have a bunch together, and has 25 years experience in handling Morgans. If a couple of these were mixed into a roll I dont think I would be able to spot them.

I dont have time on my side, but if I get a chance I may take some more pictures as I feel the world needs to know whats happening out there.

I zoomed the pics and the most notable thing I can see is the "double strike" or over lay on the front of the neck . would also like to see pics of the reverse side by side..

Also, compare the jaw line from bottom of chin to neck. The one on the left is curved while the real Morgan is straight.

I can only imagine the chemicals I exposed myself to in this test, but heck, it is for Silver Science so I went ahead and tried this. The fakes have a more metallic taste than does the real Morgan. Although I dont thnk I would recommend tasting coins at the coins shows.....

do all the fakes have an apparent extra strike mark on the throat, and rounded jaw line?
