a caliper won't hlep you much if u shopping online using photos.
Even if possible, the sellers can post photo of real morgans while u get the fake ones

Hope you hacksaw one in half.

    Thanks for sharing this.
Seller offered to refund my money if I return them, although he is being very reluctant to accept that they are fake. He says he will take them to a dealer to find out. He also said these are from his grandfather who passed away, and that very well may be true, but I would think these fake Morgans of this high quality are a fairly new import into the US. Up until now the fakes were MUCH easier to spot....

I am not sure how I will proceed, as I dont want to wind up in a situation where he says that they are real(when I know they are not)and gives me a hard time refunding my money. I suppose I could get the police involved, but that of course is a huge hassle.

He's referring to diamagnetism as seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1erTYcQliYQ

I doubt they are diamagnetic., but it depends what type of metal it is.

The seller might be trying to spin his way out of the blame. I had somebody tell me he was left some coins from an inheritance that I purchased, but they turned out to be fake too.

That way if I didn't know any better he got my $, but if I complained he had somewhat of an excuse, even though he should have known by ebay rules, what exactly he was selling.

    What I will do is

    1) to inform Paypal so they can refund the money when required.

    2) Send one back for him to send to the dealer to verify, while at the same time you send to your dealer for verification.

    3) Get him to pay postage back, choose the one with recipient Signature so that he cannot claim that he did not receive it and refuse to do a refund.

    4) If he insisted that those are real when they are not, print out the mail exchange, invoices and make a police report for counterfeit.

    5) With the police report, claim a refund from Paypal, which they would probably oblige with the police report.

It is good to get the police to be involved as it will serve as a record and at the same time as a warning to potential counterfeiter.

would it be wise to open up a case as item not as described?

ebay will put a freeze on his pp account for $320 until he gets the coins and refunds your money. can he can say you sent back fakes while his auction was legit?
