Sorting through a box of 10,000 pennies or sorting through 200 half-dollars?

Obviously, in search of copper pennies vs 40% halves...

10000 pennies ought to yield around 2500-3000 Cu coins. I can't imagine that there are many 40% halves around anymore. Still, it doesn't take long to process 200 coins so why not do both!

I get about 30% pre-1982 from a box of cents. Halves are hit and miss. I've never had great luck with boxes. However, small town banks that have loose or CWR can pay off big time. I was up north and hit two banks in an old mining town. The first bank had $380 in CWR. Skunked. The second bank had $490 in loose. Scored 92 40%'ers.

As the teller handed me the loose she said "these are all clad, you know". However, I watched her and the manager count them out and I saw silver. She obviously didn't know that halves between 1965 -70 are 40% silver. So I just smiled, thanked her and left.

I've given up on halves around my house. Too many people roll pickin'.....
