I came across Veritaseum listening to an interview here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS9xzbgM074

Info on Veritaseum here http://boombustblog.com/blog/item/9303-veritaseum-the-ico-that-s-ushering-in-the-era-of-p2p-capital-markets

The idea of 'smart contracts' is pretty interesting. I'm just scratching the surface of getting what they are about.

11/18/2017 Edit to add: as a disclosure, I purchased some VERI using ETH about the time I posted the above.

Request is interesting and another use of blockchain/smartcontract technology built on top of Ethereum. The whitepaper is here https://request.network/assets/pdf/request_whitepaper.pdf

Less detailed information here https://request.network/#/

disclosure: I do not have any Request tokens nor other involvement in it.

I hear the sound of freedom breaking out.

We can still screw it up with our proud ignorance, but I hear it coming!

Let's hope the sound comes to fruition. I am optimistically hopeful.

I hadn't looked at VERI since posting the above. When I bought VERI coins they were about $50. Now $365.

It is my thinking that VERI, or something like it, will be the tech solution to make Bitcoin transactions happen as fast, and inexpensively to the user, as current digital transactions happen in the credit card system. So imo VERI or others like it have utilitarian value and are not simply speculative. (That also my opinion about BTC in the long run but a lot of speculative action in BTC is occurring atm).
