"Vaultoro is a bitcoin gold exchange where users can instantly convert their bitcoin to physical gold, vaulted in professional Swiss vaults."

I wonder if the reverse is possible too, if we can send them a gold piece in trade for BTC? I didn't see the answer during a quick scan of the FAQs, but if so, this would be much easier, at less premium, than getting a bank draft, using Western Union, and going thru the other exchanges.

I would rather hold my own metals and my own bitcoins. I think that is the whole point. Not to trade them to some central location for either pieces of paper or some digits in a database. I am simply not interested in having what I own only portrayed as an insert into a company's SQL database.

To trade, I think there are more viable local options.

For bitcoin, it is very easy with the existing exchanges, notably Coinbase (now backed by USAA and NYSE).

For precious metals, APMEX or any of the large sellers are also buyers.

For day trading (GLD, SLV, or whatever iteration of bitcoin fund exists), I will use my stock broker.

It seems like everyday another web developer creates the exact same thing (bitreserve, vaultoro, bitgold, etc, etc). I can create some PHP code for this in a few hours and we can launch our own site...
