For all of you who don't know what is going on, here it is. Foreign money is starting to flee the US stock market, so they sell their stock and then repatriate their USD into their currency. That means they need to sell dollars.

Easy as pie.

Now, if I was still in the stock market, I could have made a bundle today. However, I need to stay away from the casino for my own health. Slow and steady wins the race.

Hey Atlas, in your opinion, do you think the USD continue to strengthen against the CAD? Reason I ask is I have a some stock that was cashed out in USD and normally I take the CAD converted check but this time around, due to the chance of it grinding higher, I would prefer to keep these fund in USD until i feel a good time to convert them over is upon us.

TIA

At this point, things are moving fast, so a reversal could be imminent. It is up to you.

It looks like the Ukrainian Hyverna took a free fall a few days ago bulling up the USD, Maybe Greece will allow the market to also take it where it may then a new run up on dollar. Then who is next?

According to this chart the usd index went from around 95 in 1980 to 140 in 1985.

http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/DTWEXM

Unless these major currency fluctuations subside the usd could be headed to astronomical levels that eventually falls under it's own weight. Big moves like Hyverna quickly became tumbleweeds due to debasement and euphoric stock highs until the next mini crisis pumping dollar higher. interesting times and challenging to see thru all the smoke and mirrors. How high do you see the usd index going?

Now the hryvnia in Ukraine is stable, but it is not clear when it will start to fall again
What do you think?

The Usa Buck went gang busters when busting in this article 81.7 and clearly has broken or cracked out. This has consequences for everything else. Everything that has an inverse relationship to it will fall, such as gold, as the US Dollar is a Reserve Currency. I got out of all of my core precious metal positions a few weeks ago after the drop and bounce, as there is no indication that they will participate to the upside with a rising US Dollar under the current global environment, as I mentioned. Most items are receiving weeknesses and will also go on into the coming year up until the US Money at the beginning shirts out. In the event the international economic conditions after August 2015 hits, then items could possibly get whacked much more. There still will be a correction to follow, even though they might not get clipped as bad as per 2008 off the record highs. The time the rally in the united states $ is maintained is certainly anyone’s estimate. It could still have strength as deflation overtakes the global economies, although analysis will show a high expected in the range of 93-95 by August 2015.

Dollar up a lot in the last few months:

https://www.barchart.com/futures/quotes/DXM18/interactive-chart

Interest rates rise play a significant role.

If you (foreign corporation or government) borrow dollars you
short sell the dollar. Ex: Mexico borrows dollars and it sells them
for pesos. This is shorting the dollar.

You repay the dollars borrowed. You buy dollars with pesos. This is
going long the dollar.

The interest rates go up in USA. You better pay fast the dollars borrowed.
If you have to repay a lot of dollars, you in fact create a (synthetic) short
squeeze. That is a major contributor to the rise in the dollar.

Ray Dalio is the manager of the biggest hedge fund in the world.

He thinks that the days of the dollar are numbered, probably not
later than 2020. Right now there is nothing to replace the dollar.
Soon it may be the yuan, or Federation Credits...or whatever.

https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2018-09-12/ray-dalio-s-dollar-warning-may-be-overblown?srnd=premium-asia

My note: It took 200 years for the Spanish currency to be dethroned as
the world reserve currency. It took the British pound about 50 years.
How long it will take for the US dollar ?

If you look around, there is nothing else like so viable-and tested-
as the gold standard.

I think the uncertainty in the economy and the global weak economy has caused the Dollars to be buoyant. It could be good times or bad times?
